laws of exponents and radicals
(sir. i finished my blog before pa… i just added this yesterday :))
Before giving you the laws of radicals, you must first learn what a radical is.. So what is a radical???
Let us take the number 9. Nine divided by 3 equals to the divider 3 => 9/3 = 3, so 3.3 = 9 or 3(2 as an exponent) = 9. Let us take another number, 27 this time, 27 = 3.3.3 = 33. So we found that 9 and 27 are actualy 3 with exponent 2 and 3. Basicly what radical is, is a fuction which finds a dvider, of the argument, which upped on exponent gives us the argument. Sometimes this divider is not a rational number. The radical is actualy the oposite function of an exponent. It even can be write down with the help of an exponent. So in our case the square(2-nd) root of 9 is 3, √9 and the third root of 27 is 3 = 3√27
If a is positive real number then the equation x2 = a has two solutions: x = +√a or x = -√a.
If a is real number then the equation x3 = a has only one solution => x = 3√a. With the help of the equtions above we solve square and cubic equations. A root can be write down with the help of an exponent, the following rule applies:
xa/n = n√xa = (n√x)a

So what exactly are the Laws of Radicals????
Well…. Here are the basic laws of radicals:
The basic laws follow from the definition:

The basic laws are used to simplify radicals. Laws 2 and 3 allow combining or separating radicals by multiplication and division, and Law 1 allows removal (simplifying!) the radical.
The Parent Teacher Conference is coming up in a few days… i’m kinda nervous… well… not kinda, really! i dont think i did very well, and we’re gonna get our report cards… hmmm… i hope my parents will still let me go to negros… at least i have one thing to look forward to… i dont think they will take it back that i can go to negros because:
i really hope that i can still go… im so excited!! only one more week to go!!! but then again… PTC is on friday…. hope im still alive by the time of the negros trip… wish me luck!

Think about the presentations and reflect on the projects your classmates presented and the information you listened to. Explain with details and specific information what you learned, what you found interesting, surprising, or shocking about the presentations you heard in class. During social studies last class, we presented our project about UN world issues. As the student presented their projects, I learned many things on the topic that they presented. I found out that the issues I thought were not so serious, was actually a very big deal. From drug abuse to child labor, girl child, to human rights, I learned it all. I learned that child labor was a very big issue, and that it hurts many children around the world. This topic is very sad because I too am still a child and I wouldn’t want that to happen to me. Another big issue is girl child. I always thought that some people were already sexists, but I never thought it was a world issue. I think that it is so unfair to all the women in the word, how they are judged because or their gender. I learned many things that day; this is only a brief overview of what I learned. To learn more, go to our wikispace with the projects. Go to: http://unworldissues.wikispaces.com/World+Issues+Homepage?token=37b4649f1f3990aa4a72c52f879286b5
What would you change to improve your project/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?
If I could do my project again, I would change the way our PowerPoint went. We didn’t go as the assignment sheet said. I would have done this so that I could add the necessary pages. Also, I would change the background of our project to have it suit the topic as well as putting voice clips in so that we wouldn’t have to say it to the whole class. Overall I think our project was fine, it may not be the best but we did our best, and that’s what counts.
Ancient Greek Food
Before I started researching about Greece, I knew little about it. All I knew was that it is a country in Europe. I also knew about its Greek mythology and the gods Zeus, Aphrodite, Hades, and Poseidon. Another thing I knew about Greek mythology, was about the villains. One was Medusa, and the others were beasts. The information I have given you is mostly based on my father’s stories he would tell us when we were a little younger. As you would have noticed, I knew very little about Greece.
Before actually researching on my chosen topic, I had to figure out what I wanted to find out. The questions listed below, are the questions I wanted answered.
what:
what food did they eat?
what were the dinner parties like?
what tools did they use to help agriculture?
where?
where did the Greeks dine?
who?
who ate certain foods?
who prepared the foods?
who were invited to the parties?
why?
why didnt the greeks get drunk?
when?
when did the greeks dine?
how?
how was the food prepared?
how did they improve agriculture?
what i found out:
The foods that the ancient greeks ate were very different than that of ours. One of the things the ate was honey cooked quail in a pie. another thing they ate was stuffed piglet with egg. i dont think that you would find these foods very common today in where we live in now.
the dinner parties then were called symposions. the guests would lie down on couches while the slaves (women) would cut up your food or sometimes they would even feed you. during those parties, drinking gagames were played and conversations about politics would be held. the guests were mainly men for women were not usually invited.
the meals were very basic and informal. the greeks had very poor table manners. they ate with their hands and they tried to get the biggest and tastiest pieces. they also grabbed platefulls of food, kind of reminds my of me and my brother.
some people ate certain food. Ambrosia was a type food that was made for the gods. this was thought to give immortality to humans or gods. poor seldom ate meat because it was too expensive. they only eat meat on special occasions, on the other hand the rich ate meat more often.
sorry mrs moran, this was the best i could do through memory because i left my outline at school.
what i learned:
in the process of completing this essay, i learned quite a few things. i learned for the first time what an outline is. i got to know how to format it and what purpose it serves. i learned that using an outline with your research makes it easier for you to write your paragraphs.
“Suicide Bombs, violence kill 68 throughout Iraq.” gainesville.com, May 8, 2007. http://www.gainesville.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070508/WIRE/705080308/-1/news> (May 8, 2007).
Link to Nadiah’s posting: http://nadiah.learnerblogs.org/2007/05/03/current-events-posting-3/
1.
How are the two events connected?
These two events are connected because they are both about the suicide bombings in Iraq. Another reason they are connected, is that they were both in the same area, Baghdad. Although both articles are similar, they aren’t exactly the same. For example, Nadiah’s describes the numerous bombings, mine describes how much damage it has done. Also, in my opinion, the article i had found is a little more detailed with the how many people it affected and the people felt about it than that of Nadiah’s, but hers describes what happened at the bombings more.
2. What did you find interesting about this topic?
What i found interesting was why the suicide bombings happened. My article said that the official council blamed it on al-Qaeda. They said that they only did this because they figured out where their hideout was and they started chasing them. I am amazed at what people will do for revenge. If i was in al-Qaede, i wuld just try to run away from the officials rather than affecting other inoccent people’s lives.
3. What did you like about the initial blog posting?
What i liked about the blog posting, was that she made it simple so everyone could understand. I think that she is great at taking a big article and summarizing it in a small paragraph. Also, it is very organized and the picture has a dramatic effect on the posting. GREAT JOB!

Comment on this statement: “the whole is only as strong as the sum of its parts.” and whether this statement is true for the United Nations.
This statement can refer to many things. In this case it is talking about the UN. this relates to the UN because all the nations work together. This goes back to the part about the sum of all the parts (all the nations working together) and the whole is the whole of the United nations. All this adds up to the UN is only strong if all the other countries work together so they can promote peace everywhere. The UN is couldnt funtion without help, you can tell by the name United nations. basically this is like the statement “united we stand, divided we fall.”
